Future Star – Hayley Wilkinson
Hayley Wilkinson, a member of the Commonwealth Golf Club Section 1 pennant team, has won the Riversdale cup from a field of top amateur golfers.
Hayley is only 18 and plays off a handicap of 3. She comes from Queensland, Bargara, 3 hrs north of Brisbane. Hayley started playing golf at the age of 11 1/2 and was encouraged by her parents. Her father, a state player, played with Greg Norman and her mother caddied for “the shark”. With two brothers working in the States, one as a greenkeeper, Hayley is anxious to study journalism at an American University and further her golf ambitions.
Hayley has represented Commonwealth Golf Club in Section 1 pennant and won her match over Susie Matthews, playing for Metropolitan who broke Commonwealth’s course record during the Nell Smithitt with a wonderful score of 68. Susie and Hayley shared at the AIS Institute and have a great friendship as well as a healthy rivalry.
As a junior Hayley was a runner-up in the Australian Junior 2001 at Keysborough and won the Greg Norman Junior Masters at Coolangatta/Tweed Heads.
Sergio Garcia is a hero not only for his wonderful stroke making but the fun and enjoyment he brings to golf. Seeing Hayley striding around the golf course, this same joy and enthusiasm shines through. Keep striving, you’ve got it all!
