I find a good way to go into a game with a smooth ,relaxed swing is to get two clubs from your bag and put them together .Have a few practice swings with them. Now when you go for your first shot it will feel smooth and relaxed.

This is something I’ve noticed when playing
I find its is easier to aim my putting if I run a club parallel to my feet and it points directly to the hole then so long as you get right weighting (force) it should go straight for the hole! I'm sure this is probably well known but I just noticed it happy golfing!

Where to aim: ball is ABOVE or BELOW feet on hill?
ABOVE feet: if ball would start to roll it would roll "towards" you (left - aim opposite direction (right).
BELOW feet: if ball would start to roll it would roll "away" from you (right)- aim opposite direction (left).

One very effective drill in perfecting your swing is to let the ball 'get in your way' as you swing toward the target. In other words, you let the ball get hit because it was sitting there in the way of your swing, not because you were swinging at it.
This drill shows why many people have better practice swings than actual swings where a ball is involved. Without a ball it is easier to swing through, yet this is the very motion that is needed when perfecting your swing.

keep the hands relaxed. Grip pressure is an essential part of the fundementals that many people over look. Having good pressure allows you to get a better feel on your iron shots and especially your putting.
Example:
Hold your club with your normal grip and ask your playing partner to pull the club fom your hands. If your pressure is correct they should be able to slide the club out fo your hands with no great difficulty.
I moved from 18 to 12 in two months from just being more relaxed and not trying to choke the clubs. So what if I have drop a club or two I am hitting the ball better than ever and I am staying within my swing.
Good luck....

Keep your chin above your shoulders when hitting your ball, it was a tip at the NZ open.

Putting Focus
When your putting is in strife, focus on, picking the ball up out of the cup, rather than, the "do instruction " of picking the line, and all of the other thoughts that prevent the intended outcome.
Taken from "The Inner Game of Golf" by W.Timothy Gallwey fascinating read for those that are open to the psychology of golf.

After each game (particularly on wet days) clean your clubs! That small amount of mud etc. in the grooves of your club does make a difference to the loft and distance of the ball.

When caught under a group of trees, chip the ball back out with your 3wood. This keeps the ball running along the ground and doesn't lift it into the trees. I was given this hint by a golf pro at one of our Pro-ams and it has worked for me and others that I have passed it on to.

To keep the put on line watch the spot on which the ball was sitting on until you hear the ball drop into the cup. The minute you follow the ball with your eyes you can pull it offline.
I read it in a book and since applying my putting has improved.

When playing out of a bunker, imagine a line about 1" behind your ball and hit through on the line (not the ball) this helps you to get under the ball and take sand with it, thus getting out of the bunker. (hopefully!!)

Try gripping your putter with your left hand overlapping your right for short putts. It does wonders to your accuracy.

I find that if I watch the ball until it is hit by the club I eliminate many skulled or duffed shots.

When putting, aligning the put with the lettering on your ball or a line drawn with a felt tip marker can help in lining up your put. It also shows if you hit it straight. Tiger Woods does it. (various sources)
