This
Month's Story
Come on down ladies - start playing!
My
partner (a single marker) had been at me for
4 years to
'play competition' - not just social now and
then. He said that was the only way I was ever
going
to improve. But aargh...I felt I was not good
enough, and in my early forties, never would
be! I wasn't
playing anywhere near a 45 handicap. I tried,
sort of, but felt that golf was out of my reach.
A game
for some lucky ladies, but sadly not me. Well,
with children old enough to take care of themselves,
I finally plucked up the courage to join a club
in January this year, and start mixing it with
the 'golf ladies' in competition. Yes, it took
a a couple of months of playing twice a week
to even play to a 45 handicap, but I am very
proud
to say that after 8 months of playing, I am now
at 38. No dramatic slide for me (like some of
the stories I have been told), but a slow solid
improvement
that I am feeling really good about. I now love
golf, and am so pleased that I have found a game
that I will continue to play well into my retirement.
A whole new world has opened up for me, and I
wonder what on earth I did on weekends before
I started
playing. So...to anyone out there afraid to give
it a real go, feel the fear and 'swing' it anyway!
You'll never look back. Wendy
