Why
Women In Golf ? I started Women
In Golf after looking for a
business where someone's needs
are not being addressed.
Where
currently 30% of the golf players
are women there is a lack of
information and exposure for
women compared to the male golfers.
There
are Australian golf magazines
and web site who barely cover
anything in respect to women
and even the prize money and
publicity on the women's professional
tour is 10% of the men's. I
am looking to redress some of
this inequality.
I
know that women golfers are
as passionate and enthusiastic
about their sport of golf as
the men as should be treated
as so. I also believe more women
would like to play golf as it
is a great game for women.
I
was introduced to golf 4 years
ago by my partner Carrie who
started playing golf to play
with her father. He visits from
Hong Kong occasionally through
the year and as a keen golfer
himself she thought it would
to good to play golf together.
I
have been predominately a tennis
player and an archer so taking
up golf is a mixture of the
ball striking and dynamics of
tennis with the static tension
and mental discipline of archery.
I am working hard on my game
and from my present 15 handicap
intend to be a low marker.
For
the past 20 years I have been
working in the computer industry
in various roles initially in
programming through sales and
marketing and back into programming
and consulting.
Before
starting Women In Golf I was
a partner in a company with
my ex-wife and a number of colleagues
developing business applications
in the windows client server
environment for organisations
such as Human Rights and Equal
Opportunities Organisation,
W.D. and H.O. Wills and Energy
Australia.
I
want to not to just address
the needs of women golfers but
expand their boundaries. I believe
if I can achieve this fairly
and with value, that my business
will profit from it and I will
be able achieve more and give
more.

I
came to Australia some thirty
years ago. I went to Perth and
studied in high school and moved
onto university and got a Bachelor
degree in Commerce. After graduation,
I went to Melbourne for 6 years
and finally, settled in Sydney
twelve years ago. I am currently
working as an Accountant for
a multinational computer services
company. I am married and we
have four children in the family.
My
parents live in Hong Kong and
my Dad plays golf. He visits
Sydney only a couple of times
a year. In order to build a
better relationship with my
Dad with such a short period
of time, I decided to take up
golf, so that we can have a
common interest. I took up golf
three years ago. At that time,
it was really hard to get into
the game. I was a working mother
and I did not have the time
to join a golf club. Also, there
was very little information
about women's golf.
I
met my husband around that time
and I got him into golf as well.
He is now a very keen golfer!
We both agreed at that time that
there was too little information
about women's golf. So, we decided
to establish a website called
"WomenInGolf.com.au". It is a
freely accessible website to
promote the game of golf to
women.
I
have been very slow in learning
the game mainly due to lack
of time and motivation. I joined
BWG last year, in the hope to
fire up my enthusiasm. It has
worked for me. I won the State
final in NSW last year (2001)
and I played in the National
final, at Hope Island in the
Gold Coast. It was a fantastic
experience!
I offered to help BWG in their
operations in Sydney to get
more involved with women's golf.
Unfortunately due to time commitments
I have had to drop my involvement
with BWG.
On
a more personal note, I would
like to promote the game of
golf to women and further enhance
my own passion in the game of
golf.
